KASAI laboratory in WASEDA University, located in the heart of Tokyo, is devoted to theoretical and applied Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine learning, Optimization, Signal Processing, and Data Science. Research areas at the center include machine learning algorithms, theory, and application, including deep learning, generative models (e.g., diffusion model), interpretability/explainability, reinforcement learning, representation learning, structural learning, optimization, and more.

Our laboratory is looking for talented, dedicated students passionate about researching all aspects of theoretical and applied Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine learning, Optimization, Signal Processing, and Data Science and having a strong background in mathematics or machine learning.

Applicants from all countries and all ages are very welcome. Our laboratory is multinational.

Note that we do not accept any ”Non-degree Research Students (科目等履修生)” at the moment. 

 

How to apply?

If you are interested in joining us as a student in a doctoral or master’s course, please follow the following steps:

Step 1. Research proposal: Complete your research proposal. The template file can be downloaded here.

Step 2. Registration with the laboratory’s entry form: Register the entry form below.

Note: 

  • A detailed research proposal is a must for all applicants.
  • More than 1 or 2 published papers in international conferences or international journals closely related to Kasai Laboratory’s research field are needed for the applicants for the doctoral course. Please attach them to the form.
  • If you cannot access the entry form above because you are now in China, please use this form

Step 3. Confirmation by email: Send an email to hiroyuki.kasai atmark waseda.jp about the registration completion, just in case. 

Step 4. Feedback from us: You will receive feedback from our laboratory. Note that if required information is not properly included without reasonable reasons, you may not receive our response.

Step 5. Communication with us: After communicating with us, and if you get a positive response for your formal entry from our laboratory, you can go to the next step.

Step 6. Formal application to university: Proceed to the formal application process of the entrance examination by following the instructions from the university. Note that you must contact the admission office for detailed information if needed. When you finish the application, please send an email to hiroyuki.kasai atmark waseda.jp.

Step 7. Entrance examination: You will take an entrance examination. The style and content of the examination depend on your selected course.  

Step 8. Notification of the examination result: You will get the entrance examination result.
